Farmers measure in Flevoland

In four regions of Flevoland, farmers are actively measuring salt levels in ditches and wells. Using our Fixeau App, they store measurements, build data series, and gain insight into when water is suitable for irrigation – depending on the crop and EC value.

Did you know that some farmers already irrigate with water at EC 4+? That may seem brackish, but with the right crop selection and timing, it's possible. In meetings this summer, we'll explore with Arjen de Vos of The Salt Doctors what this means for plants, soil, and soil life. In the coming period (18 months), we'll also explore possible measures to optimize the surface water system.

This project, initiated by the Zuiderzeeland Water Board and implemented with partners including BoerenNatuur, Van Tafel naar Kavel, and fixeau, demonstrates the value of collaborative learning about salt and water shortages. It directly contributes to informed decisions regarding flushing, irrigation, and crop yield.

With real-time insight into EC and trends via our Fixeau App, farmers are working towards future-proof agriculture, with control over their water and soil systems.
